Trevor’s Story
My first experience with cancer wasn’t as a doctor, but as a patient. I was diagnosed with leukemia at 19—right after I finished my freshman year of college. At 20, my doctor told me I had only months to live. She couldn’t look me in the eye when she spoke. I got lucky. I saw another doctor, got a different treatment plan, and a few months later, my cancer went into remission. I finished college, and went on to medical school. My dream was to use what I’d been through to help others.
Today, I’ve been a practicing oncologist for over twenty years. I love what I do, but I also know why my own doctor couldn’t look at me when she told me I was dying: it hurt too much. Cancer causes so much pain—for us, for our families and even for the doctors trying to help us. I can’t wave the pain away, but I have learned that going through it together can help.
In my medical practice at Berkshire Health Systems, I combine cutting-edge treatments with human connection—just being present with my patients. Through TrevorBaylissMD.com, my goal is to be a partner, a home base in this storm, a source of community and support. I am a cancer survivor and medical oncologist who believes that together we can use our diagnosis to climb to new heights.
